In my study of Bible Translations, I've found many inferior, many sub-par, and many that shouldn't claim to even be a tranlsation of the Bible. I prefer those which are literal, word for word, translations. I have found a few which I enjoy for different reasons, but the main reason is they are all accurate, literal translations.

My fav's are: 1. KJV- how can you go wrong with this beautiful classic. 2. NASB- dear to my heart. This is the version I grew up with, studied with, and memorized. A beautiful LITERAL translation. 3. ESV- a new favorite. Under the literal format of the NASB, it is accurate, clear, and true. The ESV is becoming a favorite of mine.

So, I can't seem to keep up. I've added a few posts to my preaching blog (www.desertpreacher.wordpress.com ) but I can't seem to get on here and let everyone know how we're doing....

We are doing well. Good bye.

Sorry, not funny. The kids are growing like crazy.

Connor seems to talk like he's 25. He has such deep and serious conversations with us, it's hard not to giggle while he's talking to you. Yesterday, he would sit on his top bunk with the window open, and Valerie held up Kiersten outside the window and ordered from the drive thru. Then they would alternate. They were pretty cute. Their creativity amazes me. BTW, when we go through a drive thru, we have to keep the kids windows rolled up because Connor wants to order for himself. He gets the workers all confused....

Kiersten is talking better everyday. She really took her time deciding to talk to us. She can communicate pretty clearly for the most part. She is also potty trained for the most part. She lingers in her diaper after a nap, but she's pretty much trained.

Clayton/Colton are growing well. They are 10 months old; yesterday. I'm amazed how the time has flown. It seems like just last week we were camped out at my parents, making the trip over the canyon to the hospital every day just hoping each day to bring them home. Wow! TONS of memories come flooding back from that 3 month period. That was tough, but praise God we are not there anymore.

They can't seem to stay well though. They never had a RSV shot. They don't fit all the "criteria" even though they were premies. I guess a constant, treated cough for the past 3 months isn't enough. They constantly have a cough. They get medicine, get better, then we hear that gurgling again. It can be frustrating.

The twins are rolling around a bit in the floor. Most babies their age are crawling and pulling up on furniture. But, the boys will be a bit behind until they are 2 or 3 since they got such a late start. As for size, they do not lack. Colton is considerably larger than Clayton. He's our brut.

Valerie is doing well. She is on the treadmill 2 or 3 times a week, getting back into a workout routine. She is spending a couple evenings out with friends now and then. Even an afternoon here and there; leaving most or all of the kids with me. I know, AMAZING! I can handle the kids by myself. Praise God for Benadryl.

We'll probably have a babysitter (or 2 or 3) so we can go out for Valentine's day. That'll be nice to spend some time together. Now, I hope we can have normal conversation instead of baby talk.

Goodbye To A Friend

On Friday December 5th, 2008, I was at home with my family and received a call for prayer. My dear friend, Tad Wheeler had suffered a massive heart attack and ER personnel were struggling to revive him. Just a few minutes later I received a follow-up call I never wanted to hear.

Tad Wheeler came into my life on New Year's Eve 1996. Tad was a friend from the beginning. He love Gospel music and wanted desperately to sing for His Savior. Due to Tad's constant prodding, David Hill, Tad, John Swofford, and myself formed the Sanctuary Quartet in March 1998. My life would never be the same.

For many years, we travelled the country together singing and enjoying many laughs and tears together. Some of our best times together were Thursday rehearsals. (these were also some of the worst times together; every musician shouts "AMEN"!)

Tad had only been saved a few short years and had lived a reprobate before his salvation. his life was completely changed by his relationship with Jesus.

Tad presented himself as a rough man to protect himself due to many past hurts. Few people had the privilege of getting to know the "real" Tad. Inside the big tough exterior was a man who loved his Savior and wanted to share him with the world.

One of my favorite memories of Tad is his "Speedo" prank he played on us. Early on in the Quartet's ministry, we stopped for the night and decided to take a swim. Tad hollered "I got my Speedo", so we quickly made a "NO SWIMMING ON THE ROAD" rule. After years of hesitation and fear, we happened to stop at a hotel on the Interstate in Arizona. It was early in the day and there was no way around it, Tad was going swimming in his Speedo. My curiosity killed me, so I grabbed Lynn's camera and headed for the indoor pool to find Tad swimming in his Speedo; a pair of dark blue trunks with a small "SPEEDO" logo at the bottom. Tad got the last laugh.....

Heaven is much sweeter today as my friend sings in perfect pitch, praising the Savior who gave him life.

So I haven't posted in forever.....

We had a wonderful Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year!

Thanksgiving was spent in Fresno with Valerie's family. Christmas at my Parents in Yucaipa, and New Year Day, we celebrated my nephew Timothy's birthday in Lancaster.

The twins have been sick with colds, coughs, and ear infections. They seem to be on the mend. Connor's 4th birthday is tomorrow.

Church is going well. Everyone is settling back in from their winter vacations and illness. All is well in the desert.

I'll be posting more next week.

Dad is doing well. He has progressed pretty smoothly. He has Dr. appointments tomorrow and Wednesday, so this week will stretch him a bit.

TODAY IS HIS BIRTHDAY!!! He's 60!!! Give him a call- 909- 556-8444.

Many churches are sending offerings to help with Mom's missed salary. FMBC Redlands started with one month's salary immediately. Mom could miss up to two months of work depending on Dad's recovery.

Late Update

Sorry I haven't updated on Dad.

When I called just before 5:00 PM Sunday, Mom couldn't talk on the phone because she was DRIVING DAD HOME!!!

Dad has been home since Sunday evening and is doing well. He has little energy but is making strides forward. He is pushing himself within reason. He walks on the path in his neighborhood and gets himself up and down from his chair.

Monday nights I stay there because of Seminary. Tuesday morning about 6:00 AM I heard the kitchen cabinets slamming. I know Mom isn't that loud so I assumed it was Dad. When I went to check, Dad was already eating his cereal and reading a book.

He's progressed quite well. Thank you for your continued prayers.

Special thanks to the FMBC Redlands. They have been very hands on to help Mom and Dad. They've picked up Mom's lost salary so she can be home w/ Dad. Our family is very thankful for such a great group of believers.

Keep up your prayers. THEY WORK!!!

Update on Dad

I've missed alot since Friday....

Saturday, Dad was moved out of the ICU. When I called Saturday night, he had been walking up and down the halls and even had solid food.

Sunday, Dad went home!!!! When I called mom about 5:00 PM, she was driving Dad home. I talked to Dad last night about 9:00 and he was resting in his chair. He'd already had a real shower and shave.

Thank you for your prayers. Dad has a long few weeks ahead of him. Please continue to pray for Mom and Dad.

Update on Dad

Dad had his respirator and heart pump removed today. He was sitting up late this evening and mom fed him a bit of Broth and Jell-o.

We are adjusting to an empty house at Mom's since Darren and Dusten went home today. It was nice to go through this together, but they have to get back to their families and jobs. It was definitely an encouragement to everyone in the family to be together these past few days.

We are overwhelmed at God's goodness, and the joy of His people reaching out to us and ministering to us. God is Good!

Valerie and I will have to make our way home before the weekend, possibly tomorrow evening. I'll be coming earlier than normal and leaving later for school so that I can help. We'll definitely try to be here when Dad comes home to help.

Dad's Surgery

We found out on the way to the hospital, that it was just a clerical error, he WAS on the list for surgery today!!!

He came through about noon. He had FOUR bypasses.

Please keep my dad in your prayers. He was to have bypass surgery first thing this morning. We just received a call that the hospital failed to get him on the list for surgery today. Please pray that we can make things happen to get him back in the process.

We have been busy lately.....

Monday, we visited the world famous San Diego Zoo with our friends from Texas. The Garcia's were on vacation in Souther Cali and called us, so we joined up at the Zoo for a great day of fun. We had a blast! The Garcia's were some of our closest friends in Texas. Dennis played guitar in our Church band and Dennis and I worked together for Church Camp and Youth Rally music many times. Ian was one of Connor's best buddy's too, so he really had a blast. Kiersten and Ava seemed to tolerate each other well. It was great to visit with them.

This week, Connor and Kiersten will spend Friday through Sunday with Nana Jones while Val and me and the twins head to my brothers house in Sunnyvale. We'll be attending my friend Dustin Wright's wedding and spending a little time in San Francisco w/ my brother and his family.

THEN, Valerie and the kids will stay in Fresno w/ Nana Jones for a couple weeks....

I haven't taken the time to update lately....

We've had my (Steven) birthday, a couple trips, and new breakthroughs.

We celebrated my birthday w/ dinner at Applebees and a home baked cake. I tried to accept 31 as quietly as possible. IT WORKED!

A couple weeks ago, Connor and Kiersten visited w/ Nana and Papa Ridings while Valerie and I, along w/ the twins, spent the day in Pismo. We enjoyed seeing friends, cooling off, and being numb tailed from the car ride. We had the privilege to visit w/ Bro. Wooley for the first time since his terrible motorcycle accident. I was encouraged at his recovery rate and his demeanor.

Our new breakthrough is Kiersten's desire to use the restroom. A couple times a day she is going through the motions of going on her own, then running down the hall waving her dry diaper.

All is well. We are looking forward to the break in temperature, which is coming soon.

SHEEESH! It's hard to just sit down and write....

The twins had their Doctor appt. yesterday and they are doing well

Connor and Kiersten are learning to play together nicely and keep each other busy. They were given a new Leap Frog reader that scans over the words w/ a pen and reads the words out loud. They seem to love it.

We are just pluggin' along smoothly. No injuries, illness, or tragedy to report.

Summer daze

Sorry for the long silent spell. I was prodded this morning by a couple folks to get back on the ball. We haven't been too busy, just busy enough not to think about blogging.

I'll give a full update Monday night....Colton weighed in at 12 lbs 24 inches Friday at hi Nephrologist check up at Loma Linda. Both boys have an appointment tomorrow w/ their Pediatrician, so I'll post pictures and stats then....

Overall things are still going well. I'll post a full report Monday night.

Mixed Emotions

God protected me from an over booked summer schedule this year. He cancelled many of my plans for the summer which would have caused me to travel nearly 8 weeks of the entire summer. My travel was limited to only 2 weeks of Church camps, thank God. It would have killed my poor wife to leave her alone w/ the kids for such a long time, not to mention our separation anxiety...

This week a group of dear friends will depart to Ukraine for a two-week mission experience. I am blessed to have travelled to Ukraine to work w/ the Pennell's and meet a lot of wonderful people. We saw nearly 70 souls saved over two summer outreach efforts, and many more heard the Gospel for the first time.

Please pray for my friends Lane, Bubba, Danny, Emily, Cory, Kalyn, Phyllis, Mike, Cody, Jana, and many more as they travel from Texas, Arkansas, and Georgia to Ukraine. Pray for the 14 hour plus air travel each way, and the ridiculously unsafe roadways of Ukraine.

We are home resting. Valerie has struggled with exhaustion and head aches over the weekend so she and the twins are getting some much needed rest.

Connor and Kiersten are resting too, so I'm getting some quiet study time in my chair.

We had wonderful services yesterday (check my preaching blog). God really blessed.

This evening we'll unpack and get the house back in order. Also, looking forward to some time with Nana Ridings....

Camp Silver Spur

I am having a great time at Camp Silver Spur, and according to Val's emails she and the kids are having a blast at Nana Jones'.

I have enjoyed working with my friend Dustin Wright this week on the music. He has written a few songs for the week, which are awesome. Dustin is a great talent and one of my dearest friends. Dustin was my Best Man at our wedding. He called a few months ago when he was asked to do the music, and asked me to play the Bass for the week. I've enjoyed the challenge of Dustin's song writing skills. He loves a busy Bass player, which I am not. I've also enjoyed having to young cousins in the band; Zach Crouch (Guitar) and Jared Keeling Drums), both great players.

We haven't seen any salvation's yet, and there has been a Spirit of rebellion and unrest in the camp. I quietly asked all the men in the camp to meet this morning and tomorrow morning for prayer at 7AM. We will pray that God turns the tide of this week and many souls are saved.

Russell Bailey and Rob Gonzales preached great messages Monday and Tuesday, but for some reason there is a lot of unrest and confusion during Church services.

Please pray for Aaron Bryan who will be preaching tonight and myself who'll be preaching tomorrow. I'm very unsettled about preaching the closing night and also seeing folks here who knew me when I was a teenager. Satan loves to mess with me on that issue....

God did show up last night through a power outage at the end of church services. So, during camp fire we had testimonies and sang w/ a guitar. I believe it was God turning us in the right direction. Due to all the testimonies last night, I'm sure God will work mightily today.

We travelled to Valerie's Mom's home in Madera Ranchos this evening. We arrived safely around 10:00 PM. Valerie will be spending the week w/ her family while I travel to Camp Silver Spur for the week.

Church Camp

Connor and I enjoyed Camp Metoche with FMBC Redlands this week. We had a wonderful time together! 38 people were saved and 1 from my 9th-10th grade class surrendered to a life of ministry. All but one of the unsaved from our Church was saved. We took nearly 30 people from our Church. It was a great week overall.

Right now I am preparing for tomorrow while Val does laundry and repacks us for another week. I'll be dropping the family off at Nana Jones' house in Madera Ranchos and then Monday morning I'll head up to Camp Silver Spur.

Life is busy but very enjoyable.

There's nothing new to report. Life is good. We are enjoying being home and getting back to "normal". Normal has definitely changed. Steady sleep is something of the past and distant future.

We are gearing up for VBS this week; so life will be a little hectic. Connor and I are headed to camp next week, and the whole family will be going to another Church camp up north the 30th-4th (pending RV rental)

While the next few weeks will be especially busy, these are the times we live for. A ministry family is all about the "events" throughout the year. VBS is probably one of the greatest community outreaches we can do in our city. Church camp will no doubt reap many salvations and even a few surrendering to the ministry.

It'll be a busy but enjoyable summer.

It's well over 100 degrees this month in Coachella Valley. You MUST come visit this time of year to truly appreciate the atmosphere in which we live.

Home- FINALLY!

We are home!

We arrived home today for good! Valerie took Colton for a follow-up at Loma Linda today, and he is doing well. We are unpacking and re-adjusting to the heat of Coachella Valley- it's only 103 today- very nice!

Family Get Away!

We left my parents home Friday morning about 11 AM for our getaway. Our Church encouraged us to get away for two weeks as a Family. I've never met a group of folks more concerned for their Pastor and his family's health. We have VBS, Weddings, and 2 weeks of Church camp coming up, so we can't leave for two weeks right now, but we did decide to come to the Central Valley to visit w/ Family and show off the twins.

We arrived in Fresno Friday evening to surprise Val's family and have enjoyed our time together. The family had already planned a BBQ for Sunday evening so our timing was perfect. We also enjoyed visiting our former Church in Fresno. It was great to visit with old friends, family, my old Sunday School teachers, etc. I had hoped to catch up with some old High School friends Saturday, but was unable to make it.

Adjusting to twins is a stretch! You might hear me scoffing, "people with two kids are pansies", only because I thought life was hectic before with only 2 kids, but now 4 children- UNDER THE AGE OF 4!!! I keep bragging "we got this", but really I'm saying "please let these babies sleep all night"!

Friday we got a hotel for the weekend just so it felt like a real vacation....Today we took over our friend's home for the week. They are headed to Washington State, so we have their beautiful new home all to ourselves!! Yes, we are spoiled brats!!!

BTW...my weather bug is telling me it's 105 degrees at home in Coachella...it's about 90 degrees today in the Central Valley; thank you Jesus!

We received the call we've been waiting for, for the past 7 weeks! "Come get your son"! We completed the discharge process (like getting out of prison ((not that I've ever been in prison )) , then we arrived at my parents home around 7:30 PM.

We are overjoyed and relieved! We are very thankful for God bringing our family home safe and healthy. Now we celebrate through sleepless nights and multiple diaper changes.

I'll post pictures in the next few minutes.

Thank you for your prayers and encouragement through this time. We are especially grateful to our parents for opening their home to us so that we'd be closer to the hospital. We have utterly destroyed their new home!

We also must thank our Church family for their prayers, encouragement, and patience through this ordeal. They have not had a pastor for the last 8 weeks. Some may say they haven't had a Pastor for much longer than that.... :)

Our Church encouraged us to take some family time and get away. They even gave us a love offering to be sure we could do something special. We have VBS and 2 weeks of Camp and weddings this summer, so we can only get away for a week right now, so WE OUTTA HERE!! Who knows, we may show up at your door asking for a place to stay next week. If you see the white suburban coming, lock your doors and turn off your lights!

Communication is Key!

Some of my Pastor mentors have told me "good communication will eliminate a multitude of turmoil". We've experienced the results of this truth in a big way this week.

We've experienced Resident Physicians and Nurses giving incomplete or totally inaccurate information in some cases.

BUT, today we called ahead to the NICU social worker and demanded a meeting with the Nephrologist, after they informed us they changed their minds about Colton's discharge today.

In a large hospital like Loma Linda there are multiple specialists in fields like this. I think the biggest communication problem is that 2 of the 3 Nephrologists on staff are men!! We men are not great communicators !!!

The Nephrologist explained to us that Colton's left kidney has not functioned for quite some time, if not from birth. If there is no blood to the organ, there is only 20 minutes to solve the problem through surgery. His body is in the process of eliminating/dissolving the left kidney. He will live a normal life, apart from any professional sports or military service, with one healthy kidney.

The artery feeding his left kidney was either damaged by inserting the PICC line in his belly button or he was born with a non-functioning kidney. I am leaning towards this being a birth defect due to the fact that he had kidney issues before the PICC line was inserted.

We are relieved to have clear answers and better understanding why there were no procedures to save his kidney. We were told earlier by a Dr. that his left kidney was working, so we were confused as to why there were no efforts to get blood flow to it.

We were told today by Dr.'s that Colton has no blockage, blood clot, or obstruction of any kind regarding blood flow to his left kidney. There is no blood flow to his left kidney for some reason. We will follow up with the Nephrologist/Specialist for further treatment.

We will be able to bring Colton home as soon as we buy a BP Cuff and are trained how to check his BP. I've ordered one and should receive it early next week. So far, his BP meds are keeping his BP at acceptable levels.

We are discouraged that he is not at 100% health, but are thrilled at the thought of having the whole family home together.

We found out today that the "Gall stones" story was a nurse just shootin' for the stars. We are still ONLY dealing w/ a blood clot in the artery feeding Colton's left kidney. They are waiting on blood test results before acting. They want to be sure there is nothing else to treat.

As of today, they have kept Colton's BP below 100 without the 3rd medication which was prescribed "as needed".

Colton has been diagnosed with Gall Stones and his Kidney condition has been confirmed. The main artery feeding the left kidney is either blocked or too small. His kidney will be dealt with first and then the Gall Stones. There will probably no action until Tuesday due to the holiday weekend.

Valerie enjoyed a great visit with him today. She arrived just before his feeding so she was able to nurse him. He nursed from both sides AND ate 50 cc's. That's DEFINITELY my boy!!! He's 1/2" longer than Clayton and a slight bit heavier.

Hopefully we'll have some good news and progress this week.

Loma Linda

Yesterday was long and hectic for all of our family.....

Valerie, Connor, Kiersten, Clayton, and I loaded up by 11 AM (you try getting ready early after living in suitcases for 8 weeks) and headed to Yucaipa (Nana and Papa Ridings' house).

As soon as we got settled, Valerie and I took Clayton to Riverside for his 1 week follow-up. He is doing great. Dr.'s are very happy with his progress. We received some more detailed instructions on how to keep him healthy and different dangers to watch out for.

Then we headed back to Yucaipa and dropped Clayton off, and Valerie and I headed to Loma Linda. Colton is doing very well other than his high Blood Pressure and kidney problems (which is causing the BP). I held him first and fed him while the nurse gave us the updates. Colton had been through about 5 tests by 5:00 PM. They were still going to take him back for the "Profusion Test" (Ultrasound watching the flow of die through his kidneys). They have scanned him from head to toe to get a full view of his problems.

Loma Linda is much faster about getting tests done and more thorough. Because of the weekend and holiday, we won't have a diagnoses or game plan until Tuesday. So, now we wait.

Valerie and I were glad to see Colton and hold him for a couple hours. He is not any bigger than Clayton but, is bigger boned, so his head is larger and his build is more like a football player. But, he is just as sweet and easy mannered like his older brother Clayton.

Kevin McBryde is a Pastor in Houston, Texas. He is going through Chemo treatments for Cancer. He has three beautiful children and a dear wife, Marcie who are standing by him through this. Colton's test results came back on his kidneys. His left kidney is receiving little to no blood so it is not functioning. The main artery feeding his left kidney is either blocked or too small.

He has been transferred to Loma Linda Children's Hospital to further deal with his condition. Loma Linda is one of the best Children's Hospitals in the country, (his Dr.'s have been consulting a specialist at Loma Linda throughout his care) so we know he will continue to receive exceptional care. We are struggling to continue to leave our son in someone else's care. We realize that Colton is in God's hands ultimately, it is quite difficult to continue waiting while we want him home so desperately.

Best case scenario is getting the kidney working again. Worst case scenario would be removing the kidney. Please continue to pray for Colton and his new team of Dr.'s at Loma Linda.

Valerie and I don't do well apart, and we've been apart alot lately. Most weeks I come home on Wednesday then return to my parents on Thursday, then come home on Saturday and back on Monday....that's tolerable but not great for us- we have serious separation anxiety; a husband and wife that enjoy each others presence, imagine that.... Connor and I came home Saturday for weekend services/Revival this week, and we haven't seen the rest of the family since then. We've grown pretty discouraged and weary without each other.

So, Valerie loaded everything up and headed home today. I'm enjoying the chaos of Kiersten and Connor competing to see who can make the biggest mess. Clayton is enjoying his permanent digs here in the desert.

Please pray for Colton. Dr.'s are still trying to determine the cause of his high BP.They are waiting to run another ultrasound on his kidneys. They will pump him full of fluid and watch the flow in and around his kidneys. Once he's had that test he can come home. Please pray for his health and clear results from the tests.

We are enjoying Clayton being home.....

Connor and I have been home since Saturday. We are having Revival Services this week, so we'll be staying all week. This will give me time to finalize anything needed around the house, to be ready for the boys.

Clayton is getting used to being spoiled. Valerie, Kiersten, and Clayton are in Yucaipa at Nana's house. When Valerie visits Colton in the evenings, Clayton and Kiersten are getting spoiled by Nana and Papa.

Dr.'s are running a more detailed ultrasound on the valves around Colton's kidneys to try and determine the cause of his high blood pressure. They informed Valerie yesterday, that they would send Colton home with medication if there are not major abnormalities.

If there are any major complications, we are near a great children's hospital, Loma Linda. Of course, our prayer is that there are no problems, and he's just under stress, and the blood pressure will level off.....

Please continue to pray for Colton's healthy homecoming.

Today Connor was allowed to visit his brothers. He was thrilled, obviously. Valerie took him in for about 30 minutes. Normal visits are only 10 minutes for young siblings, but Connor was very good and entertained the nurses for a while. Here's a couple shots from his visit.

Here's an email she sent out late last night.....

GOD IS GOOD!

For all of you who knew about Colton having high blood pressure....it is still high and he is still on medicine to fix it. They examined his heart and his kidneys and they are not the cause. The Dr. will now look at his arteries to see if they're too small. But other than that he is back in an open crib and has no oxygen tube going in his nose, and he is bottle feeding every meal. So he's taking big steps again. The Dr. is hoping he'll be able to come home next week sometime.

We've heard that before so we'll just wait and see :)

The Dr. was thinking about sending Clayton home Wednesday but he wants to watch him another day or two. He will probably come home Friday....I'll be sure to let you know when he does.

I can't wait to have them both home. I may not be saying that after they're keeping me up all night.

We enjoyed good visits with the boys yesterday. I visited the boys after lunch while Val went shopping w/ Connor and Kiersten. Then last night Mom and Val spent a few hours with the boys....

Clayton is doing great. We are just waiting on his discharge...hopefully today! Based on the criteria that has been given to us, it could be as soon as today.

Colton is back in an open crib. They tested his heart to determine his High Blood Pressure. His heart is fine, so next they'll test his Kidneys. Beside the Blood Pressure, Colton is doing well. He's back off Oxygen and attempting to nurse. He is eating all of his meals by bottle.

We've had a great weekend at home. Last night a few of the men from the Church went Soul-Winning at a local Skate Park; HUGE BLESSING! Today God's house was FULL. I've heard of "burstin' at the seams", but saw it first hand today. We celebrated our Mother's and gave them a long stem rose. Then, God blessed with two coming forward for Baptism! God is good!

Valerie enjoyed the day and afternoon here at home with us, then she headed to Moreno Valley about 4:00PM to feed the boys and spend some time with them....

The boys are doing well. Colton has high blood pressure, so they'll do a heart test tomorrow to figure out the problem. Clayton is doing well. He did have an "episode" Friday, so he won't get to come home tomorrow :( They'll want to watch him for a few more days, to be sure he's ok.

I'm back in Yucaipa today. We are going shopping for a Mother's Day dress today.

Clayton nursed very well last night and is doing well overall. He's weighing 6 lbs. He is on track for coming home Monday. If he has no "spells" of dropping Oxygen levels between now and then, he'll be discharged Monday. Praying/hoping for that!!!

Colton weights 5lb 13 oz. He is keeping his temp. well, and is bottle feeding over other meal. We are waiting on lab results from this morning to be sure his infection is gone.

Valerie is very discouraged about Mother's Day without the boys being home, but I think a little shopping at the 2nd largest mall in the USA will help with that :)

Colton had a blood transfusion today. The nurse said he was shy on his blood levels because of all the blood draws and his little body couldn't replensish as needed. The nurse seemed calm about it, but it's freaked us out a little.

Clayton is still truckin' along. He is eating every 4 hours and has no signs of turning back.

Please continue to pray for the boys' recovery and for our patience through the process.

The boys are still continuing to move forward. Colton is doing well in spite of the infection. He is back in the isolator/incubator, just in case.

Clayton is now longer than Colton. At birth, Colton had an odd shaped head that made him longer....Clayton is 19" and Colton is 18 3/4".

They are both moving forward and doing well. They will probably not be home for Mother's Day though:(

The boys are still doing well. They have continued to remain stable in an open crib since Saturday morning. Colton developed a fever due to some type of infection, so he'll be on Anti-biotics for a few days. Otherwise, all is well. We are still unsure of the exact date of discharge. Wouldn't it be awesome to take them to church on Mother's Day!!!

Connor and I came home for the weekend. We are tending to things around the house, including the new puppies. It is warm in Coachella. I think it's near 100 degrees. Won't you come visit?

Valerie and my Mom visited with the boys last night. They took a close up comparison picture... I'll just tease you with it until my Mom emails it to me. They look ALOT alike. It's gonna be fun keeping them straight.

The GREAT news is, they are in open cribs as of this morning! This is a HUGE step forward to coming home. Once they are eating all of their meals by bottle and staying at temperature in the open crib, they can come home. My hope is that they'll come home this week, of course.

We came home to Coachella today to do a little cleaning. We arrived to find a much skinnier Belle. (our Yellow Lab) She had given birth to puppies. They are Solid Black and Solid Brown; all looking like pure bred labs (which they are not) . I guess the Lab in the Father is the stronger gene.

We have 7 survivors, and Belle is quite the mother. Now, to figure out how to handle the pups while were living like transients.....

We didn't stop by to see the boys this morning before leaving, but will check in by phone. They are still growing stronger each day. We are still praying and longing for the day they come home.

I must give special recognition to our Parents and our Church. Valerie's mom spent 3 weeks here helping out and keeping us moving smoothly. My Parents have opened their home to us as we invaded like a Tornado. Our Church Family has been very patient with their Pastor as he is only in town for services, and totally disconnected.

Your prayers and friendship has been a great support, but if not for our Parents and Church Family, I'm not sure we'd survive this time.

Valerie and I visited the boys tonight. They are both doing well. Clayton ate 60 cc's from a bottle. He is still feeding by bottle every other "meal". Colton is still doing much better and they are giving him a bottle to see how he does. Overall, they still look good. There is still no definite date on them coming home though.

Please pray for a little baby girl in the NICU across from the boys. She is in critical condition. The parents are very young, but are being encouraged and supported by their church family. I'll try to talk to them tomorrow to get to know them a little.

Valerie spent some time with the boys and delivered their milk this afternoon. So, my dad and I headed up to the hospital tonight to visit the boys. They are doing well. Clayton is still eating every other feeding by bottle. Colton is still breathing weakly. The Dr.'s are confused as to why the boys are still struggling to breathe. They are due for a chest X-ray in the morning to try and figure out the issue.

Good evening,

I've just arrived home (Coachella) from visiting the boys. Valerie went by a little later and is there with them while I write.

Clayton is continuing to move forward. I fed him with the bottle, and held him for quite a while. He was alert and responsive to me.

Colton is also doing quite well. Before RMBI closing ceremonies this morning, we called to check on the boys, and to our joy we heard that Colton was removed from the CPAP during the night shift. He has done quite well since being removed from the machine. I was able to hold him for a while before leaving. We are really excited to see the progress of both boys, but Colton in particular.

Thank you for your continued prayers. We have a window of time to expect the boys home; Clayton is expected to be released in the next 7 days, Colton is expected to be released in the next 14 days.

I'm still looking for some takers on puppies....

Valerie spent a few hours at the hospital today with the boys.

Clayton continues to remain stable with no "spells" over the past week. He is eating twice a day from the bottle.

Colton is still on the CPAP but is only requiring 21% Oxygen. That is what you and I breathe normally, so he is in good shape. No forecast on when he'll be removed from the CPAP. A DR. told Val today that Clayton may come home before next weekend and Colton would be 7-10 days behind him. That is the day we are looking forward to.

Please continue to pray for the boys. Also, pray for the rest of us. We are starting to wear down and it is beginning to show.

Tonight after dinner, Mom and I headed over to see the boys. I've stayed in the hallway the last couple of days with Connor and Kiersten, so I haven't seen the boys since Tuesday. We enjoyed the visit. After about an hour, Colton's nurse was wondering why we didn't ask to hold him- I tripped over the IV machine to take hold of him, I was so excited! He is still on the CPAP but is disconnected from the UAC line in his belly button. I enjoyed being able to hold him. I must say, it is causing a little marital trouble tonight that I spent so much time with the boys. I'll be testing out Mom's couch tonight...

Thank you all so much for your prayers. Every week on Thursdays and Mondays the boys leap forward. I know it's because ya'll pray together on Wednesdays and Sundays. Keep it up! Prayer works! God is so good..... now if He can soften Val's heart to forgive me....

Also, another quick note....the nurses thought my Mom was my sister...we get that alot. Do I look old? Oh...I mean, my Mother looks sooo young.

We stopped by to see the boys a little while ago. They are both doing well.
Clayton is continuing to stay strong. They will hold off a few more days to put him permanently on a bottle.
Colton has made great progress. His UAC line was removed from his Belly Button. This is the biggest hurdle to us holding him. My mom and I will head over after dinner and we may be able to hold him. He has not had any "spells" since Tuesday night.

I called this morning because we won't see the boys till this afternoon. There is no significant change today. THAT IS GOOD! Clayton is still drinking 40 cc's per feeding by the bottle. Colton is up to 10 cc's and had no "spells" last night. Thank you for your continued prayers. I'll update this afternoon after we see the boys.

On another note, our dog Belle will be giving birth in the next couple of weeks....if you're interested in a Yellow/Black Lab/Shepherd mix, (dad has tendencies to break into the back yards of beautiful yellow labs in heat) PLEASE let me know.

I made my nightly call to the NICU to check on the boys at 9:00 PM. Clayton is soaring! He's eating plenty and taking a bottle for most of his feedings now. His weight is up to 5lb 5oz. Colton is also doing very well compared to the last couple days. His oxygen requirements are the lowest they've been since birth- 25%. His best has been in the low 30's to date. Colton has also returned to eating. (they had put him on IV feeds due to the meds for his lung collapse) Colton's weight is 5lb 9oz.

Also, neither of the boys have had a "spell" in which they need a burst of oxygen to settle them down. They are both doing quite well.

We are home! We stopped by to visit with the boys this morning and then headed home for Church services. We will head back to visit the boys tomorrow afternoon then head back to my parents tomorrow evening.

Clayton was eating from a bottle and enjoyed Connor and Kiersten peeking through the nursery window.
Colton is doing much better today. He has received three or four breathing treatments through the night and today. He is not gasping and panting like he was yesterday. We were very encouraged at his condition today. We know it's because of the power of God and the prayers of His children. Thank you for your continued prayer.

BTW, Valerie is doing well. She drove herself to a haircut yesterday. She is recovering very well.

Clayton and Colton are still gaining strength. Obviously, Colton is still struggling to breathe but, he had a good night. Colton's Antibiotics were extended a few more days to be sure any infections are taken care of. We will be visiting them this morning, then heading home for church tonight. Valerie's mom, Diane, will be heading home to Fresno today.

From the beginning, the boys have struggled to gain strength in their lungs. Clayton has been removed from the ventilator and we are able to hold him. Colton, however is still struggling to breathe on his own. On the night shift tonight, he will probably be placed back on the ventilator. We have yet to hold Colton, except for Valerie slipping in while they were changing his bed.

Please keep Colton in your prayers so that he'll gain strength in his lungs.

Nothing new is happening. All is well in our home. Kiersten does have 2 types of Bronchitis but she's a much better patient the her daddy. She fusses a little with her breathing treatments, but does pretty well otherwise. Nana Ridings will come and spend the day with the kids Saturday, the Nana Jones will come for a few days next week. We're sure to be spoiled.

I'm starting to relax and enjoy the times. I tend to get stressed anticipating the crazy days ahead when the twins arrive. BUT, I realize I won't have an immaculate house, nor somber children. So I'm trying to just appreciate our health, and the great blessings of God.

Connor is crazy about me. I don't say that to be a jerk, but as a proud daddy. Here he is trying on my socks....tonight after church he asked me to move the small podium so he could take his Bible and preach.

Today my brother travelled down with his family. We all converged on my parents house for an afternoon of fun. It was great to see them and watch all the kids interact with each other.
